Typical slab on grade construction can be performed on top of an insulating pad – requires underlying active layers to be permanently frozen. Slab should be non-frost-susceptible (NFS) material. Thermal regime may me maintained using a ventilated foundation ducted circulation of cold air between the insulated floor and underlying ground. Mechanical refrigeration has been incorporated to circulate cold air between the insulation and the ground layer. The ducts below ground surface can collect water, soil, or snow, and therefore air-intakes must be taller than peak snow height to allow for draft.
